Tuesday Tales – Bells
Posted by triciaandersen
Hello everyone and welcome to another Tuesday Tales! This week’s word prompt is bells. We are back with Gideon in my untitled Steampunk romance. Gideon has gained Emma’s assistance as he builds the humidor. With her there, will he get it done?

The cheerful chime of the cathedral’s bells echoed throughout the townhouse. The clamor normally drove Gideon to bury his head into his pillow in an attempt to drown out the bright morning rays of light. This morning, however, he shot up, shoving the covers from his nearly naked body. He had no idea if and when Emma would grace his threshold with her beauty. He should at least be decent when she arrived.
Gideon paused for a moment as his eyes fell on the gold band he still wore on his left ring finger. Sophia. His heart, his body, his thoughts had been devoted entirely to the golden haired creature since he met her. He nearly forgot the reason he took on this assignment. Revenge. Revenge against the bastard who took the life of his precious wife and son. He exhaled slowly. He couldn’t forget them.
Gideon stood from the bed and tugged his chocolate brown wool trousers up each long, powerful leg. A grin spread across his face at the knock on the door. His devoted thoughts of Sophia floated away as desire for Emma burned in his veins. He glanced around for a linen shirt. Not finding one at the ready he chuckled. What would Emma’s reaction be when he answered in his rather indecent state? He couldn’t just let her stand outside in the morning chill as he searched for a shirt.
Gideon tugged on the doorknob, yanking the door open. His smile faded.
“Good morning to you too, Gideon,” Edgar greeted. He raised the emerald green bottle of absinthe in his hand. “I figured you would need one of these.”
“What are you doing here?” Gideon near barked.
“Checking on you. I worry about you, Gideon. You are my best friend. What has you in such a bother?”
Both men stopped at the sound of soft footsteps shuffling behind them. Emma, dressed in a rose colored gown covered in a charcoal cape and hood, smiled brightly at them. “Good morning, gentlemen. Forgive me for interrupting. I am ready to get to work, Gideon.”
Gideon growled at Edgar’s amused smirk. He opened the door wider to allow Emma through. His glare was near murderous as Edgar slipped away from Gideon and followed her inside.
