Tuesday Tales – Hip
Katarina led the group to the library, her skirts swishing flamboyantly with every step she took. Gideon scowled as he tucked Emma close to his hip. The crowd pressed close to them as they traveled through the corridors. It looked like a garish parade journeying to the entrance of hell. It was too easy to be separated. If they were it was hard to tell what would happen to the woman he loved. I do not trust that witch.
Everyone gasped in awe at the humidor sitting in the middle of the grand library. The bustled around it, touching the intricately carved wood. Gideon studied his creation. The glass had been repaired. It wasn’t as thick as the pane he used but it would work. He would have to find another way to disable it.
He stumbled forward a step or two as General Hellwig clapped him on the shoulder. “It’s brilliant, Gideon!” The General then turned and kissed Katarina on the cheek. “Thank you, my dear. I love it.”
“You are welcome,” Katarina mumbled. She shot an evil grin at Gideon. He could tell what she was thinking. In moments the General would be dead, he would be blamed for the murder and her plan would fall into action.
Gideon cleared his throat. “Sir, let me demonstrate its features to you.”
“By all means. Lead the way.”
Gideon led the General around the humidor pointing out a thing here or there. As he pulled open the metal reservoir of thick, green liquid he smiled. He cast a glance at General Hellwig. “Forgive me, sir. This concoction keeps the humidor at the precise atmosphere to store your items. It seems to be too thick. Let me dilute it.” Taking a goblet of water from a nearby guest, he added several drops to the mixture. In moments the liquid in the reservoir was as clear as the water in the glass.
Gideon opened the door as he winked at Emma. “General, if you’d like to step inside, you can see exactly how this humidor works. I believe it will be an experience you will never forget.”
