Tuesday Tales – Toes

Hey everyone! Welcome to Tuesday Tales. I apologize. Last week the excerpt I shared was supposed to be the beginning of my new series, Fighter Girlz.

Then my muse hit. New characters, a new plot. This is the new beginning for Fighter Girlz. Get ready to be Dani and Fitz.

And don’t forget to check out the other amazing Tuesday Tales!

The ruckus above sounded like deep rolls of violent thunder. The rumble shook the entire building. Dani raised her eyes up to watch the tiered cement ceiling above her. This arena wasn’t that old and this wasn’t the first event held here. It didn’t take away the deep seeded fear that the thousands of fans above weren’t going to fall down on top of her.

All the noise didn’t help with her nerves. This was her sixth fight. And just like the ones before, her stomach was in a knot. She looked up at the mirror in front of her as she nudged an ebony braid off her shoulder. She sat backwards in the folding chair, her arms laid on the backrest. She was dressed in her black sports bra and fight shorts speckled with the white logos of her sponsors. Her bare feet were just visible in the reflection. Her toenails were painted black because her little sister insisted that they paint their toes the night before. It was a prefight ritual now. Her lime green mouth guard was hooked around her left ear.

She barely turned as the door to the locker room opened with a squeak. She forced a smile on her face as Ryan appeared.

“Things have started. You’re the eighth fight,” he reported

“We’ve got time,” she countered smoothly.

“Not as much as you think. Those first couple will probably end in the first round. Let’s wrap your hands.”

Ryan whipped a chair around and dragged it towards her. He then grabbed their bucket of supplies and dropped it between them. Once he was settled backwards in his seat, he fished in the bucket for scissors and the rest of the items he needed.

They sat silent as he wrapped her hand. Dani loved the feeling of Ryan’s touch as he worked. She glanced up at him. His close cropped brown hair and angular face used to make her melt when they were dating. Now that they were only friends it was just cute. But his touch? His touch undid her. She didn’t think it was him. It’s because he’s the last guy I slept with.

Don’t forget the other wonderful Tuesday Tales!
