Fitz fished the helmets from the saddlebags. He handed her one then straddled the bike. He offered his hand to help her on behind him. Dani tugged the helmet over her head then hopped on. She barely got her skirt tucked modestly beneath her before he fired in on and flew down the street.

The cool breeze off the lake caressed Dani’s skin as they cruised down the country lane. It was a sharp contrast to the hot, sculpted body beneath her fingers. Despite Fitz’s claim to live dangerously, he took the drive slow. There were too many rocks lying on the pavement. The sun slit through the low hanging trees. The purr of the bike rumbled through her helmet. The whole scene was peaceful. It didn’t dull the raging lust coursing through her.

She let go a disappointed sigh as Fitz turned the motorcycle towards Saint Louis. Farmland was replaced by factories and shopping malls. It was dark as he pulled up in front of her apartment and helped her off the bike.

Dani tugged her helmet free. “Now what?”

Fitz shrugged. “I guess this is where I tell you good night.”

“Really? After all you said at the diner?”

“Dani, I talk a good game. But I’m not like that. I like you a lot. I respect you. I’m not going to force myself on you.” He stepped towards her and planted a kiss on her cheek. “Good night. I hope we can do this again soon.”

Dani smiled at him then ascended the first stair towards the door. She turned back. “How about a night cap? I might have a beer or two.”

Fitz shot her that crazy grin that turned her to putty. “Really?”

She reached out her hand to him. “Yeah. Let’s go upstairs.”

Tuesday Tales – Fan

If Dani’s cheeks were pink before, they had to be blazing now. They felt like they were on fire. She pressed the fingers of her free hand again her skin. Yep, not. She absentmindedly fanned herself with the menu.

“I didn’t mean to embarrass you,” Fitz said.

“You didn’t,” she returned quickly.

“Yeah, okay. I’m sure you have no other reason to be beet red.”

“It’s a little hot in here.”

“It’s not that hot.”

Annie was at their table once again with their drinks. Dani didn’t miss that she spilled some of her water. She smirked at the blonde as she ordered a chef salad. Once Fitz ordered his burger and fries, Annie stomped away.

“Seriously, that stuff is going to kill you,” Dani commented.

“I’ll be fine, Dani,” Fitz chuckled.

“It’s not that hard to eat healthy. I could show you.”

“Are you offering to cook for me?” Fitz winked at her.

Dani stared at him baffled for a moment then shrugged. “Sure. I’d make you dinner sometime.”

“How about breakfast tomorrow?”

“You want a second date that early?”

“No, sweetheart. I figure you making me breakfast would still be part of this date. Or if we get up late you can make me lunch.”

The touch of his hand and the tone of his voice set her on fire. Her mind went blank. Before she could come up with any sort of protest Annie dropped her plate loaded with lettuce, meat, cheese and veggies in front of her. She delicately set Fitz’s in front of him. “Can I get you anything else?”

“No, thanks.” Fitz dismissed her with a forced smile.

The conversation slowed as they ate. Once Fitz paid the bill, he took her hand and led her through the dining room, exchanging brief chit chat with folks as they passed.

The street outside the diner was quiet. The only sound was the cricket song that wafted on the breeze.

Dani gasped as Fitz pulled her into his arms and his mouth covered hers. When his tongue slipped between her lips to tangle with hers she melted into him. No man ever kissed her quite like he did. She wove her fingers in his hair. When he broke free, she tugged him to her for another.

Both of them were panting as they held each other tight. “Up for a ride around the lake before we head back?” he offered.

“Perfect,” she whispered.

Dani shrugged as she picked up a menu. “There’s not much to tell. I’m the only girl in my family. I have four brothers. I always inadvertently got caught up in their wrestling matches. My mom signed me up for Tae Kwon Do so I could protect myself. I fell in love with martial arts and the rest is history.”

“So now I know Dani the fighter. What about Dani the woman?”

She stared at Fitz baffled. No man ever wanted to know her. They lusted after the woman in the cage. She never understood what turned them on about that. She smirked at him. “Oh, this is the ‘I like long walks on the beach’ portion of our conversation, huh?”

He laughed. “Sure. Let’s call it that.”

Dani set the menu on the table. She traced her finger along the gray rooster that adorned it. “I love to read. Romance, mystery, horror. Doesn’t matter. I have a bachelor’s degree in library science, but when I moved to the city I couldn’t find a job. I’m an assistant at a law firm for now.”

“Fascinating.” Fitz caressed her hand still held in his.

Dani shuddered as she met his gaze. She really needed to demand that he take her home. She wasn’t sure how much more she could take. She had never wanted a man so bad in her life. “Hardly.”

“It is. You’re not only devastating sexy and tough as hell, you’re brilliant. Might be the perfect combination.”

“Fitz, you are seriously full of it.”

“I am. But that time you didn’t tell me there was no chance I’d end up in your bed. I’m breaking you down, huh?”

“I…”

Her attention was suddenly pulled away by the blonde waitress standing beside their table. “Fitz, it’s good to see you.” The woman sneered at Dani. “Can I get you and your friend something to drink?”

“Hey, Annie. I’ll have a root beer. Dani?”

Dani smiled at the waitress. “Water, please.”

Annie huffed away towards the kitchen. Dani watched her go before turning to Fitz. “Ex girlfriend?”

“How could you tell?”

“The fact she was ready to tear off my face. Do you bring a lot of girls here to piss her off?”

Fitz’s smile set her heart racing. “Nope. You’re the first I’ve brought here. And for the record, I don’t give a shit what she thinks. I only care about the opinion of one woman tonight and she’s sitting across the table from her with her hand in mine.”

It seemed like the entire town was nestled inside. The noise of chatter and clanging dishes was almost music. A waitress motioned to the only available table. Dani reached for her chair only to find it pulled away from the table. Fitz motioned her to sit as he gripped onto it with his other hand. “I can be a gentleman.”

“Right. I suppose you’re going to order for me to?” she quipped.

“Only if you take too long.”

Dani shook her head with a laugh as she sat down. Fitz settled in his chair, scooped up a menu and handed it to her.

She looked at him puzzled. “Don’t you need one?”

“Nope. Double cheeseburger and fries. Like I get every time I come here.”

“Don’t you have a fight coming up in a few weeks?”

“Are you my coach?”

“I could do a better job.”

Fitz reach across the table and took the free hand not holding the menu. “Let’s not do this. I don’t want to talk about Duos or Diamondhead. Just us. Okay?” He pointed to the corner over his shoulder. “See that old guy in the white polo shirt with the lady in the purple flower dress? He taught me how to catch a baseball.”

“Didn’t your dad do that?” Dani questioned.

“My dad did nothing but run the farm. He didn’t have time or patience to teach me. So Mr. White did. He was my teeball coach. He was there when our varsity won state.”

“That’s pretty cool.”

“What about you? Tell me about yourself. There has to be a story behind that beautiful face.”

Dani felt her face flush hot. She swore she heard a growl across the table. She looked up to see the hungry look in Fitz’s eye. “What?”

“Don’t do that.”

“Don’t do what?”

“Blush like that. It makes you look cute. It makes me want to corrupt something that cute.”

A hot rush of desire blaze through her. “Don’t count on it, bucko.”

“You say that. But your body is telling me something different. Tell me I’m wrong.”

“Fitz…”

Fitz cracked a grin. Dani didn’t have to ask why. She didn’t say he was wrong. The squeak in her voice actually admitted he was right. He lifted her hand to his lips and kissed it. “So, you were telling me what you were like as a kid.”

Fitz tucked a helmet in each of the saddlebags that hung of the seat on either side of the motorcycle. He smiled at Dani as he pressed his hand against the small of her back. The sensation made her shudder. He scrambled to hide the reaction. “What are you doing?” she demanded.

“Trying to be a gentleman. I could get you moving in other ways.” Fitz dropped his hand to her ass and squeezed. She jumped. She wasn’t sure if it was from shock or arousal.

She scampered towards the restaurant door as she shot a glare over her shoulder. “Keep your hands off my ass.”

“Bet you’ll change your tune by midnight.”

“Highly unlikely.”

Dani reached for the knob to pull the door open. She instead found a large hard covering it. She glanced up to find that crazy grin that drove her wild. “I’ve got it.”

She tucked a fly away strand of hair behind her ear as she felt her cheeks grow warm. He cocked his head. “Dang, that’s sexy.”

“What?”

“That tinge of pink on your cheeks. Makes me want to do this.” Fitz leaned towards her and pressed his lips against her skin. It made her heart flutter. She shrugged away.

“Hey, I’m not that bad,” he protested.

“It’s not that.”

“Then what is it?”

“This. The dress, the blushing. It’s not me. I’m not a girly girl.”

“Then why are you acting this way?”

“I don’t know. Something about you is bringing it out of me.”

Fitz cupped her chin in his hand and lifted her eyes to meet his. “Just be you, Dani. I want you, not some fake version of you.”

His eyes locked on her lips. Moments later his mouth brushed against hers. The kiss was soft, gentle. It was a taste of what might be. It turned her into a quivering puddle of need.

“I though you said you were hungry,” she countered weakly.

“I am.” He tugged the door open and nudged her inside.
