Gideon gently closed the door to the townhouse softly. He laughed as he spun on his heel and descended the stairs. Snowflakes danced around his boots as he strolled along the brick covered street. He had risen early to make breakfast for his exhausted lover only to find the pantry bare. He slipped out to head to the shops for provisions.
His eyes caught two men mulling about the corner. He frowned as their cold, piercing eyes watched him walk by. He shook the paranoia from his mind. No one knew where Emma was. These gents were just passing the time.
The first stop was the butcher. The shopkeeper gasped at the sight of Gideon then greeted him with an endless barrage of words. Gideon chuckled to himself. Had he been out of sight that long. In mid sentence, the stout man paused. “What can I get for you, Miss?”
“I’m with him, sir.”
Gideon flew around, finding Emma behind him dressed in Sophia’s crimson cloak and pale yellow gown. He strode across the shop to her, bending low to keep the butcher from hearing them. “What are you doing here? Do you not remember me telling you that Katarina wants you dead?” he growled.
“You promised not to leave me there,” she pouted.
“You aren’t safe out here.”
Emma wrapped her arms around his. “I’m safe with you, Gideon. Besides, I snuck out the back door the moment you left and traveled through the alleyways. No one saw me.”
Gideon sighed. “All right. But keep the hood up. Understand?”
“Of course.”
Gideon tugged her close then ordered sausage and bacon. They stepped from the shop in the direction of the dairy. He glanced warily around the street. The two men were quickly approaching, each looking furious. Instinctively he pressed Emma against the storefront, blocking her from their sight.
“What are you doing?” she demanded.
He pressed a tender kiss to her forehead. “Trust me, my love.”

Tuesday Tales – Flower

IMG_0075.JPG

Hi everyone! Welcome to Tuesday Tales. We are still with Gideon and Emma in my untitled Steampunk romance. Last week we caught them in an intimate moment. How will they stop Katarina from using the humidor to kill General Hellwig? Let’s find out!

The winter wind whipped around Gideon’s legs as he trudged down the vacant street. He tugged his coat closer to his face to block out the chill.

Glancing around at his surroundings, he noticed the barren trees, the frost covered ground, the empty flowerpots perched on the steps of the houses.

This particular lane in London had to be majestic in color during the summer. Not that Gideon knew. He kept himself locked away from the world. A small cloud huffed from his lips. This summer he would have to get outside and enjoy the beauty.

He shook the chill from himself as he stepped into the tavern. There was hardly a soul in it. Most folks didn’t frequent this establishment so early in the morning. It made finding the man he was looking for easier. With a grin, Gideon weaved among the tables and dropped onto an empty wooden stool at the bar.

“A little early in the day for an ale, don’t you think?” Edgar grumbled.

“I would think you would be happy I left my house on my own accord,” Gideon chuckled.

“I do admit that surprises me. Look at you. You’re a new man. It’s almost as if you’ve been keeping a woman in your bed.”

Gideon shot Edgar a devious grin. Edgar slapped the wooden plank that served as the counter of the bar. “I can’t believe this! Is it that little beauty Emma?”

“A gentleman never shares who he has spent his night with. However, I can tell you she’ll be furious if she knows I’m here so we need to make this quick. I need a favor of you.”

“Barely stick you head out and you’re already under the thumb of a woman,” Edgar laughed.

“This is no laughing matter,” Gideon snapped, suddenly serious. “There is more than one life at stake. That includes Emma’s. And mine.”

Tuesday Tales – Ghostly

IMG_0075

Hey everyone!  Welcome to Tuesday Tales!  This week’s word prompt is “ghostly”. We are back with Emma and Gideon in my untitled Steampunk romance.  The last time we saw them…well… Let’s find out what happens this week!

**This is my disclaimer…and sort of a spoiler. The following scene is “R” rated. If you are sensitive to sex scenes, then this is where we part ways. Thanks for stopping by! Please stop back soon!

The moonlight through the window casted ghostly shadows across the room. The soft whirl and clatter of the metallic creatures roaming the house was almost soothing. Gideon closed his eyes for a moment, immersed in the sensation of Emma’s soft, naked body cradled close to him. Despite her betrayal he couldn’t help but be in love with the woman in his arms.

He gazed down at Emma to find her twinkling blue eyes staring back at him sleepily. Her lips curled into a sweet smile. He brushed a stray strand of hair from her face. “You’re beautiful,” he breathed.

In the pale moonlight he could see her cheeks flush pink. Suddenly her smile disappeared. “Gideon, what are we going to do? Katarina has the humidor. She can accuse you of General Hellwig’s murder.”

“Don’t fret,” he assured. “I will think of something.”

“We have to stop her.”

“I will stop her.”

Emma pushed herself up on her arms until her eyes met his. As she did, her nipples grazed across his chest and her hips ground against his. Gideon fought back a hiss. Her act of bravado did nothing but arouse him. “We will stop her. Together.”

His voice came out as a growl. “We will discuss it in the morning.”

“But Gideon…”

“Katarina isn’t murdering the General tonight. I have a friend who can find out when she plans to. No more talk about it tonight.” He grasped her hips in his hands and tugged her on top of him. A gasp escaped her throat as she felt him pressed hard against her. He moaned as she wrapped her fingers around him.

“No more talk,” she murmured.

He lifted her up then lowered her onto him until he was deep inside her. He groaned as she rode him, her head thrown back, her hair flowing down her bare back as she lost herself in the ecstasy.

Tuesday Tales – Pretty

Gideon’s lips grazed Emma’s as he gripped her tight to him. The feel of his large, strong hands caressing her hips made her shudder. His voice had a guttural tone as he spoke. “Emma, have you ever been with a man?”

“No, Gideon. I haven’t.”

She could tell it took a force of nature for him to let her go. He dropped his hands to his sides and took a step away, his blue eyes now trained to the wooden floorboards beneath his feet. The small space between them made Emma feel vacant. She needed his touch, his heat.

“Do you have someplace to go?” Gideon muttered.

“No. I lived with Katarina,” she answered weakly.

Gideon spun on his toe towards his workbench. He sidestepped a small, scrambling copper turtle scuttling across the floor. “I will find some money for a room for you.”

“Why can I not stay here?” Emma demanded.

Gideon turned back. She could see the war waging in his features, the deep, strong need battling with the proper decency he was known for. “Because you should give yourself to the man you wed. Having you here with me is a temptation I no longer can resist.”

Emma smiled as she swept across the room. She touched his cheek, feathering her fingers against the stubble. “I want you, Gideon. I want to be in your bed. I want you to love me, not some other man.”

“But…” Gideon objected.

She patted his cheek gently. “Do not fret your pretty head over it.”

Emma gasped as Gideon pulled her against him as his mouth claimed hers in another blazing kiss. He broke it long enough to gather her nightdress in his hands and tug it over her head, leaving her naked before him. The smile on his face as he stared at her made her heart race. It promised a night she would never forget.

Tuesday Tales – Curly

Hey there everyone!  I am back with Tuesday Tales!  (It’s been too long!). And…I am back with Gideon in my untitled Steampunk romance.  The last we were with Gideon, he had rescued Emma from the humidor.  (Need a refresher?  Click here!). What will happen when Emma wakes up?

The pumpkin orange glow of the late autumn sunset illuminated the thick glass pane of the window. It was soft yet still pierced Emma’s senses. She let go a soft groan as she stretched her stiff limbs.

Her mind raced to remember what had happened. The last she remembered she had been thrown in Gideon’s horrific humidor, the door sealing shut when she hit the floor. The thick fog of poison wrapped around her, choking her. She thought of him, of Gideon as she gasped her last breath. All she wanted to do was tell him how much she loved him. She never would.

But now, she was lying in the soft sanctuary of someone’s bed. Whose bed was she in? Had Katarina taken pity on her? Emma brushed a curly lock of hair from her face as she opened her eyes. Her gaze was met by the cold glare of Gideon’s.

“Gideon,” she breathed.

He shifted in the chair he sat until his elbows rested on his knees. He pressed his palms together for several moments. “You betrayed me. Your willingness to assist me, to be here with me, to want me was only a ploy to get me to finish that bloody contraption.”

Emma sat up, tugging the covers closer to her. “At first, yes. Katarina commanded me to do it. But the longer I was here, the more I was with you I wanted to be here.”

“Liar,” Gideon spat.

Emma drew her eyes to slits. She tossed off the blankets and stood on unsteady feet. She spun at him. “I don’t need to sit here and listen to you call me a liar. Yes, I lied. But I am not lying now. I was here because I wanted to be with you. I touched you, I kissed you because I wanted you deep in my core to the point I ached. No man has ever compared to you. But I don’t need your condemnation.”

She turned away from him to search for her gown. Just as she stooped to pick it up, a hand on her arm whipped her around. Her lips were engulfed in a scorching, sinfully delicious kiss. The only choice Emma had was to melt into it helplessly.

Tuesday Tales – Savage

Badge for TT - very small

Happy Tuesday!  It’s once again time for Tuesday Tales!  Today’s word prompt is “savage”.  We are back with our untitled Steampunk romance.  When we left last week, Gideon was rushing a poisoned Emma to his home to save her.  Will he make it?

And don’t forget to check out the incredible excerpts from other very talented Tuesday Tales authors!

The frigid savage night wind whipped around Gideon as he shuffled quickly through the dark alleys of London.  He kept the lifeless Emma clutched close to him as he wove through the streets.  His hand brushed her arm.  Her skin was growing deathly cold.  He had no time to waste.

He shoved through the door of his town house, breathing in the warm air as he gently laid her on his bed.  He dashed to his work bench, gathering the items he needed for the healing potion.  He lit a candle then after tugging on a pair of thick, leather gloves, poured the allotted amounts of each substance into a jar.  He warmed the glass with the candle until the contents turned into a thick green liquid.  He poured the potion into a mug then returned to her side.

Carefully propping Emma’s fragile frame in his arms, Gideon pressed the rim of the cup to her lips, tipping it back until a bit of the liquid touched her tongue.  He gave her a bit more.  Then just a bit more.  Suddenly her limp body came to life and she began to drink.  He helped her finish the mug then laid her back down, tucking the comforter around her to keep her warm.

Gideon stoked the fire in the fireplace then slumped into a nearby chair to watch her sleep.  Emma betrayed him.  Then she confessed to Katarina that she loved him.  He didn’t know whether he could put his trust in her.  He reached behind him for the throw draped on his chair then wrapped it around himself.  He studied her.  She would be asleep for quite a while as her body freed itself of the poison.  When she woke and was strong, he would get some answers from her.  No matter what it took.

Tuesday Tales – Lemon

Badge for TT - very small

Happy Tuesday!  It’s once again time for Tuesday Tales!  Today’s word prompt is “lemon”.  We are back with our untitled Steampunk romance.  When we left last week, Emma was trapped in Gideon’s humidor.  Will she die?

And don’t forget to check out the incredible excerpts from other very talented Tuesday Tales authors!

Gideon watched through the crack in the door as Katarina and the two men descend the staircase.  Once they disappeared he slipped through the doorway and silently approached the humming humidor.  His heart raced in terror.  Emma was inside.  Dying.  And he built this contraption to be indestructible.

Except for one sensitive spot.  Gideon created each piece of the humidor by hand.  He even blew the glass for the window.  But as hard as he tried, the glass never came out strong enough to withstand a blow.  There was always a weak spot.

He reached down to his boot and pulled free the pistol he kept there since he began walking Emma home.  He quickly scanned the glass then aimed and fired.  The glass shattered into thousands of shards.  The humidor quickly died and the door popped open.

Gideon held his breath as he stepped inside, finding Emma slumped lifeless on the floor.  He scooped her into his arms and carried her to fresh air.  He searched for breath or a heartbeat.  Both were weak.  He cradled her safely in his arms before he snuck back into the servant’s staircase and descended to the main floor.

He scanned the corridors for signs of life.  He pondered the situation.  He needed to get home quickly.  He could brew the remedy to the poison there.  But carrying an unconscious woman through the streets of London would attract attention he could not afford.

His eyes fell on a lemon colored throw draped on the back of a chaise lounge in the library.  He scuttled across the corridor then set Emma down on the chaise long enough to secure the blanket around her.  Once she was bundled inside he gathered her in his arms and hurried through the servant’s quarters until he was outside.  Holding Emma close he stole through the midnight black towards his home.

Tuesday Tales – Hug

Badge for TT - very small

Happy Tuesday!  It’s once again time for Tuesday Tales!  Today’s word prompt is “hug”.  We are back with our untitled Steampunk romance.  When we left last week, Gideon found Sophia’s murder, but also found out she was unfaithful.  Will he confront Emma?  Let’s find out!!

And don’t forget to check out the incredible excerpts from other very talented Tuesday Tales authors!

The Hellwig mansion was deserted.  Not a single soul fluttered about on one of Katarina’s whims.  The way the shadows hugged the walls of the darkened rooms made the house seem haunted.  Gideon shuddered as he sprinted up the grand staircase.

He stopped as he reached the final flight of steps leading to the library.  Voices floated down to him.  He slipped to the servant staircase and ascended silently.  He spied out through the crack in the door.

Katarina paced the floor before the large spider web window.  Emma was restrained in a bear hug by another of Katarina’s thugs.  She could not move a limb.  Gideon glanced to the humidor.  The door was open and the interior glowed an eerie green.  The poison had already been placed into the contraption.

“It seems my new toy needs to be tested,” Katarina proclaimed.  She spun at Emma.  “You have not been the good, faithful servant you promised to be, my dear.”

“I coerced Gideon to build the humidor.  Those were your wishes.”

“Yes, but I had rules.  Did I not?”

A slow, evil grin spread across Emma’s face.  She tossed her long, blonde locks then winced as the henchman tightened his hold.  “Kill me.  I have nothing else to live for.   But I must thank you, Katarina, for fulfilling your promise.  You told me you would find a husband for me.  You did.  Unfortunately, I lost him before I could tell him how much I loved him. Your lies took care of that.”

Katarina swept across the scarlet carpet until her nose pressed against Emma’s.  “I demanded that you not fall in love with him or he with you.  Bed him if you must.  But no love.  Gideon Alexander belongs to me.  I have worked a long time to possess the man.  I had his wife’s lover murder her so I could have him.  Then the man became a recluse.  Now once my husband is dead he will be mine.”

“Gideon has a good, pure heart.  He could never love a black hearted woman such as yourself.”

“Once his contraption implicates him for my husband’s murder I will be his only salvation from the hangman’s noose.”

“Gideon would hang before he would choose you.”

“You need not worry, my dear.  You will not be alive to see it.”  Katarina cocked her head towards the humidor.  The thug shoved Emma inside the wood box.  It suddenly came alive with a moan of gears.  The green mist slowly thickened into a fog that snaked around Emma’s screaming body.  The room was silenced as the door slammed closed on its own.  The click of a lock was the only sound.

Tuesday Tales – Mirror Picture Prompt

Happy Tuesday!  It’s once again time for Tuesday Tales!  Today we have a picture prompt – a mirror.  We are back with our untitled Steampunk romance.  When we left last week, Gideon discovered Emma’s betrayal.  What will he do now?  Let’s find out!!

Gideon stormed through the streets of London as his temper raged.  When had he let Emma under his skin?  He desired her, he fell in love with her.  And the whole time she was leading him to murder.

When his anger subsided he found himself at the tavern door.  Several stiff drinks would drive Emma from his mind.  He opened the door, stepped inside and slumped onto a barstool.  The barkeep scuttled off to get his liquor.

Gideon fixed his eyes on the mirror behind the bar as he waited.  His gaze traced the graceful silver curls of the frame.  His focus never wavered as he grasped the glass of absinthe and swallowed it.

That was when he saw it in the reflection of the glass.  He spun to get a closer look.  Behind him sat Katarina’s thugs.  One held the silk red rose that Gideon made for Sophia.  The bastard had killed his precious wife.  He rose from his stool and settled at a nearby table to attack.

“Where did you get that?” the other ruffian inquired.

“Sophia gave it to me one morning when I rose from her bed.  I was fascinated so she gave it to me.  It is a shame I had to kill her.  Katarina paid me handsomely to do so though.”

“And your son?”

“With my family in the country.  That imbecile believed Toby was his.  Sophia had to summon him to her to hide the fact I fathered the child.  I shared her bed from the day he left to serve until the day I took her life.”

Gideon’s blood turned to ice.  Sophia, his Sophia, was unfaithful?  She said she loved him.  The evidence in the man’s hand proved otherwise.

Instinct demanded the thug’s blood, demanded revenge.  He slowly exhaled.  No amount of alcohol would take away the betrayal of two women.  He slammed his fist on the table and rose.  He might not be able to get answers from Sophia.  He would get them from Emma.

Tuesday Tales – Nudge

Badge for TT - very small

Happy Tuesday!  It’s once again time for Tuesday Tales!  Today’s word prompt is “nudge” and we are back with our untitled Steampunk romance.  When we left last week, Gideon and Emma had just finished the humidor.  What will Katarina think?  Let’s find out!!

And don’t forget to check out the incredible excerpts from other very talented Tuesday Tales authors!

The two men who struggled the humidor to Katarina’s library gave Gideon an ill feeling.  He could not imagine a lady of her standing acquainting herself with such ruffians.  He searched for Emma against the blazing sunset that burned through the spider web window.  Her beautiful shadow was hidden in a corner.  He chuckled to himself.  Tonight her shadow would darken his bed also.

Katarina beamed as the men nudged the humidor into its final place.  It looked regal and magnificent with its dark stained wood and red leather.  Little did anyone but the occupants of this room know that it was a death trap.

“Show me how it works,” Katarina demanded.

Gideon strode to the door of the humidor and opened it.  “When someone steps inside the door will seal itself closed.  The chamber will become airtight.  However, to hasten the death of the occupant along, a fog of this poison will release killing them in moments”.  He held up a vial of green, iridescent liquid.

Katarina snatched it quickly from his hand and replaced it with a crimson velvet satchel.  By the weight of it he surmised it was his pay. “Good work, Captain Alexander.”

“Thank you.”  He nodded to the beauty in the corner.  “Emma’s help has been invaluable.”

Katarina’s laugh was icy.  “I agree.  I could not have done this without Emma.”

“Done what?” he inquired.

“Persuade such an honest, good man as yourself to kill.”

Gideon’s face darkened.  “Persuade me to kill?”

“Yes.  She was sent to you every day with one command – to do whatever it took to convince you to obey my wishes.  Even seduce you.”

Gideon’s glare snapped to Emma.  She curled herself into the depths of the corner, hiding from his anger.  His face twisted in fury.

“Thank you for your service, Captain Alexander,” Katarina purred.  “You are dismissed.”

Gideon’s eyes shot from Katarina to Emma.  Without a word he stormed down the staircase leaving them both behind.
